so tired?

i have noticed lately that i can not for some random reason sleep through the night. Even though my son is 2 he still tends to get up in the night every couple weeks or so. For awhile i thought i was waking up because of that but since it doesn't happen that often i don't think its that. Usually i wake up probably 3 or so times a night. i find my self thinking about stupid things like work the next day, or what i should make for dinner or even what i should wear the next day. i am not sure what to do about it i have resorted to taking melatonin once a week just to simply try and catch up on my sleep!
any suggestions?
